Huge shout out to the Alameda Water Shuttle crew for lending me a patch kit do I could fix a flat tire, while on a boat. I got a flat in the rain. Riding with occasional pumping stops was too slow and I didn’t make it in time.

On my way home a kid in a car yelled “Bike Bus!” to me. I guess they saw my flag? I don’t know if they go to our school or not, but of the things that someone might yell at you from a car, this is one of the best.

This is absolutely devastating. The only trauma-free way out of traffic crashes is re-engineering our streets to be safe like so many other countries have already figured out.

At a red light, a driver sped through then cut off two lanes of car traffic at the next light to take a freeway ramp. I guess I got distracted. Next I heard “Bicyclist! Get out of the way!” The light had turned green and another driver was trying to turn right.

Looking at a city through private windows feels a little more like watching it on TV than actually being there

I’ve been sitting outside of a bike boulevard for a while today. I hear people chatting riding side by side and the quiet sound of freewheels and ebike motors, and the occasional revving car engine. It’s a nice street to sit at and listen.

#BikesBuildCommunity thread: The bike ride home from school dropoff this morning was a really neat example of how riding bikes for transportation can help foster social connections.

I like listening to this video the best. It’s a juxtaposition of the persistent noise pollution from cars on the roadway and the chatter of a parent encouraging their kid, and others catching up on the new school year. What would you rather have on your streets?

The two commissioners who voted against the trail closure, Yoriko Kishimoto and Barry Nelson, should be lauded for understanding what the purpose of BCDC is and why they were at the meeting. The rest should be ashamed, incl those who expressed reservations but voted to close the trail anyway

For the first time in history, since the Bay Conservation & Development Commission (BCDC) was formed in 1965, they voted to reduce public access & close 4 miles of Bay Trail along the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge four days/week for 3 years.

Protect your local diverter

Connor Lennon says they will stand in protection of the diverter at NW 20th / Everett all day today and tomorrow. “If they want to remove these they will have to physically remove me.” A rally is planned for today (8/7) at 4pm at this location.

Astonishing to hear several BCDC commissioners state that: Ending 24/7 bike/walk access to Richmond San Rafael Bridge curtails maximum public access to the Bay, AND that such a move is unprecedented, BUT they still plan to curtail access. Why? The purpose of BCDC is to protect & expand access.

"If a cyclist makes a mistake, he dies. If a car makes a mistake, he also dies." This Dan Donahue video is so good. I love his point that a lot of cyclist hate comes from drivers being mad they have to drive everywhere. I don't think that's the reason for *all* the hate, but it's a factor!
