Many moments today... 1. I led rides for 70+ 5th graders on transition day to middle school 2. This is the OG 2020 bike train crew 3. We rode on this bike lane that was installed by... 4. the public works director who we ran into after this moment on his walk. I had the kids say, "hi, Adam!"

Hero alert 🚲 Fresh off knee surgery, Parkdale PE teacher Mr. Dixon taught every grade how to ride a bike. The result? Nearly 99% of students can ride. This week, Parkdale hosted the district's first-ever Bike-a-Thon. Huge thanks to the PTO and volunteers! 🚴💨

Another grant won! The OG bike 🚲 🚂 route on Pacific Avenue that was started in 2020, will finally get a bikeway design thanks to the ODOT Safe Routes to School grant. Progress is slow but it does happen. Soon, kids won't have to ride on the sidewalk and share precious space.

About 8 years ago, I sold my 70s Gazelle to a good friend in Hood River and she keeps it in Portland for riding. It has bike cancer and I am motivated to bring her back to life. The 2nd 📸 is from the first Mother's Day bike ride that I organized in 2014, along a car-free Memorial Drive.

17th Street will have a 2-way bikeway next to Hood River Middle School next month. This project began with a 3-month demonstration in 2023 and is finally being made permanent. Demonstrations are a great way to cross the chasm between zero infrastructure and progress but patience is key.

Middle School bike fleets have 10+ year old tires and I won $4000 grant from the Hood River Education Foundation to replace all of them. I took 5 flat tires to a 50th birthday party last night knowing there would be mechanics there and sure enough, it was knocked out in 10 minutes.

To traverse Hood River County's schools and drop off the Bike to School Day poster, I use the CAT 😺 bus with my bike. I pre-arrange poster 🏣 drop-offs and pick-ups at grocery stores or breweries next to the bus stop with school staff. Creativity and small town relations = one less car.
