Never seen an episode of this show. Perhaps I shouldn’t be hasty but feels like a good call.

The problem for this movie is that it’s the first time an Avengers is coming out without a lead-up of mostly entertaining movies. It doesn’t feel like a capstone, it feels like an attempt at pushing the car downhill and popping the clutch.

School of Rock: a movie that can please anyone. Including a room of me, my two sisters, my one sister’s husband, and her two kids, all of us having wildly different tastes in movies.

I’ve seen every scene of A Christmas Story many times but I could not possibly tell you where any one is in relation to its runtime. Show me a random scene and ask me, is this the beginning, middle, end? No clue.

And Tiny Tim, who did not die, won’t go to heaven where the angels fly. He’ll go to a lake of fire and fry, won’t see him again until the 4th of July.

Still thinking about Wake Up Dead Man after seeing it yesterday. Interesting how it has a bit in common with Frankenstein in terms of where they land. Interesting how both moved me greatly. Interesting that this is true despite the fact that the older I get, the more I lean toward fullblown atheism.

Nolan making a fantasy movie is very interesting to me. Even with his Batman movies, which are essentially fantasy, his whole take was “let’s make this as realistic as possible.” Not a lot of fantastical/dream-like images in his movies — even the one about dreams!

I met Barack Obama in 2007 at a small event when his run for president was just starting. He asked me what I was working on. I said, a book about the 5 1967 Best Picture nominees. He said, quickly, "So...Bonnie and Clyde, The Graduate, Guess Who's Coming To Dinner, In the Heat of the Night..." >

Any Democrat who thinks it's appropriate to "find common ground" with the Republicans on issues like high school sports teams is negotiating with a political party that does not believe trans people should exist. This policy will kill people, so maybe stop wringing your hands about volleyball.

Ummmm… hmm. On the one hand I like that this doesn’t explain or reveal much. But I’m also really curious what new things this has to say in a story about aliens, which is such well-trodded territory (even by Spielberg himself).

Nothing Trump says or does can be shocking anymore. Anyone paying any attention and who is also not a piece of shit already knew like 20 years ago that he was one the biggest pieces of shit alive. It’s a great tragedy that he cannot simply be ignored and never given a single thought.

A (quite) young movie lover said to me recently, "Not everybody can afford a DVD player," and I said "How much do you think a DVD player costs?" He said, "I don't know, like $500?" Those of us who advocate physical media are maybe not doing the best job of messaging.
