“That’s one gone!”, says a dad to me as he drops his son at nursery. “One more to go!” he says, pointing at his daughter sitting in the car. “Just need to get rid of the wife, and I’m sorted!“ he laughs, expecting me to laugh too, but to his surprise I smash him about the head with a ceremonial mace

Female workers in US steel mills, WW2 (c.1942) were a subject for photographer Margaret Bourke-White. They were known as 'Rosies' based on the 'Rosie the Riveter' icon, which represented women who worked in factories and shipyards when men were absent in war

Unexpected rabbit hole today is discovering that "Phwoar!" was first recorded by the dictionary in 1976, and 1972's Carry On Matron may be its first film appearance. I thought I'd found an earlier 60s TV use, but it seems "Phwoar!" is firmly a 70s phenomenon.

I've said it before: anyone who runs down the job that teachers do, even for such nakedly political reasons rather than from any real place of conviction, (a) should try surviving even a fucking WEEK of it themselves and (b) should then go to the bottom of a well.

I would ask Robert Jenrick why it is that British migrants in Benidorm don't "integrate" when living in Spain? They all live near each other. Eat and drink in English restaurants and bars. It's different though, somehow, when we do the exact same thing, yeah?
