More than 1800 detainees are missing after the closure of Alligator Alcatraz. Their families and lawyers can’t find them and they’ve vanished from the ICE database. Feels like this should be a much bigger story

As of the end of August, the whereabouts of two-thirds of more than 1,800 men detained at Alligator Alcatraz during the month of July could not be determined by the Miami Herald.

We often say 'Racism is expensive' but it is the most accurate diagnosis of USA's troubled history IDK if we comprehend how expensive, so here is a 20yr sample. At the time US GDP was 16 trillion But it's never been more costly per day than now OP is right that there seems to be no cost too high

...in a separate essay, I discuss the endless litany of supposed "causes" of transness, and how they lack evidence & are often incompatible with one another. they *only* make sense if you recognize that they are all enabled by negativity bias!

Only 1 person in the whole study went from identifying as trans to not identifying as trans. The 1/5 number came from youth going between the binary and non-binary spectrum. This headline and post are misleading on purpose to fit the economist's editorial bent on the political issue.

In the aftermath of the murder of Heather Heyer, tens of thousands flooded the streets of Portland, Boston, the bay area + beyond against the Alt-Right. If you took part in these demonstrations or supported them, when Trump calls to attack anti-fascists as "terrorists," he's talking about you.

many ppl highlighting flaws in this article. but having fought in the "80% desistance" wars of the mid-2010s, I remember asking anti-trans activists if they'd be ok if 80% of youth were helped by gender-affirming care (flipping their argument). & they *never* answered. b/c they want *zero* trans ppl

I think fundamentally, the ability to care about the rights of a small and vulnerable minority (of whom you might know no members) is an important sign of whether you are committed to human rights out of principle, or out of mere convenience.
