Shows like Family Guy & Teen Titans Go, which rely on cynical humor, have their place. I loved that type of comedy as a teen, and I still enjoy it on occasion as an adult. What genuinely baffles me, though, is when these shows blindside their audience with short bursts of emotional sincerity.

Other mediums have AI problems, too, but they don't have the industry-wide scope creep of video games. They didn't make something as ludicrously big as Baldur's Gate 3 and then go "The next one will be bigger!"

Record collecting and video games are two of the rare hobbies where it's actually fun to be temporarily broke. If you've been doing either for awhile, you have so much stuff you needed to listen to more. You have a whole pile of games you've never booted up. Today's the day. You invested!
