If you ever wonder why I don’t post more about current events, please don’t mistake that for apathy. I do stay informed and I do my best to contribute in other ways, but I’ve also learned that pressuring myself to use social media to act as an amateur news outlet is terrible for my mental health.

I don’t know who needs to hear this, but constant, chaotic, unfiltered news and social media can overwhelm the mind—flooding your attention, stirring up emotions, and making it hard to think clearly. It’s okay to step back and be selective about what you let in. Your mental well-being matters.

Sometimes all you can do is make the world 0.0000000000001% less awful by being a good person and it feels very meaningless but it’s also the only thing that really matters

I am founding a not-for-profit website where independent comic creators and small publishers can easily sell their works to libraries, plus provide other services. Called (for now) the Comics Librarian Commons, this will be an online hub bringing independent creators and librarians together.

I think it was @gregpak.net who recently said something like "action alleviates anxiety." Take that to heart. You will feel less alone, less helpless, less defenseless if you become involved in local progressive action. It's already happening all around you; go outside and find it.

As someone who went through the "Evangelical Christian > atheist > spiritual but not religious" pipeline, I honestly love agnostic stories about Faith. I don't care what someone believes as long as they're using it to find comfort, love their neighbor, and be a good person (in a non-dogmatic way).
