This is one of the best descriptions this story I ever read. The version they published in Tapping the Vein with art by John Bolton is still one of the greatest horror stories ever printed.

This story has lived with me since I was a teen. It’s visceral and strange and powerful. I often mention it in Creative Writing classes. This thread has a link to an excellent write up.

Last day of 2025 and I finished reading a gap in my Ondaatje reading. A lowkey emotional journey through the fragments of childhood and we remember what shapes us. Makes me want to message old friends. Quite nice.
