5 copies of Moonbound by Robin Sloan. US Only. Part of his Penumbraverse, it is one of the craziest books I've read outside of the Library at Mount Char. But kinder and more hopeful too. So, who wants a copy?

Because if you could analyze what sex scenes they're talking about, chances are, they might have a purpose! Or maybe they're badly crafted, but the entire thing they're attached to is badly crafted also, and sex isn't even the issue. So unless you're going to cite your sources, hush.

Going forward, anyone who wants to complain about sex scenes in media has to link the actual scene they're talking about. For some reason, they never name names and it's this Ur Sex Scene Haunting the Plot. Chances are, it's not something they even watched personally. It's a clip out of context.

As awful as it seems, I'd take the UK's new PM every 1-3 years shitshow over 12+ years of living under the same nazi and his same wretchedly evil government, no resignations for anyone in sight for any number of catastrophic failures, let alone for the PM himself (see: India under Modi).

I think “remigration” discourse needs to also be understood as an attempt to render migrant and racialised workers more precarious, in addition to being (obviously) racist. They still want workers to come. They just want them to have little to no rights and be easily deportable, like in the UAE.

I dedicated this, my second published book, to Aveek. He introduced me to the work of Borges, & gave me a copy of Woolf's ORLANDO, both of which filtered in subtle ways into this, a tale of an uncracked/cracking egg in a dragons' nest in Calcutta of the 90s/00s:

Happy Pride to everyone. Thinking about how my late uncle Aveek (lost to the pandemic), who was the first openly queer person I knew, gently told me I was queer many years before I realised it myself (I denied it at the time). I think it was not long after the below book was published.

In 2024's heatwaves, there were 8,000 recorded fatalities in Uttar Pradesh, a single state. Meanwhile India's regime is making sure we have one of the highest rates of deforestation in the world (while fudging the stats to make it seem like we don't) so oligarchs can extract more wealth for them.

Over 8,000 Died in Uttar Pradesh's Five-Day Heatwave, More Than Double Bihar and MP's Toll
The study also showed that the heatwave impact varied across the state, which shows that it is driven not only by climatic intensity but also by underlying demographic vulnerability.

The main reason I’ve become such a “air conditioning is an essential life saving technology” advocate is because I was horrified to find out how many people seem to think that letting millions die during heat waves without it is better “for the greater good” of slowing climate change.

I'm deeply uninterested in any question about why authors are making less money that doesn't start by asking, "so how much money are publishers making?" they're charging libraries through the nose for those ebooks, after all. if anyone was worried about authors we'd get 50% net minimum on that
