The attendance figure for #DinoConUK I've been giving people was too conservative: I've been saying over 800... which is true, but - at 861 - we were (checks calculator) closer to 900. And this is year 1.

The first DinoCon @dinoconuk.bsky.social went off with a bang. A bunch of dinosaur/prehistoric life related talks, stalls and activities to keep the palaeonerd community out of mischief for a weekend. Thanks to everyone for making it enjoyable and hope to see you again next year!

11/n A shout out is also due to fellow Welshman and DinoCon volunteer @jamespascoe.bsky.social whose boundless energy, positivity and kindness was on display throughout the weekend, running workshops, raising funds for charity and generally being everything, everywhere all at once.

(10/n) Amongst the visitors were a couple of hugely-respected figures in palaeontology. Discovering that they not only knew of my work, but also liked it, and had followed it for some time was frankly hard to grasp. But I am deeply grateful… and still slightly incredulous.

(9/n) Thanks are also due to @megabeastgames.bsky.social who was my table-neighbour. It was so good to see his Last Titans game receive such a positive response from players young and old, and I can’t wait to see the game become a reality. Please follow him for all the latest news about the game.

(8/n) Meeting @sydka-art.bsky.social was such a joy: a young, upcoming artist whose love and enthusiasm for her subject was infectious. As an occasionally cynical old artist, seeing someone find so much joy in their craft was a much-needed breath of fresh air and a reminder to be more like them.

(7/n) Meeting @kakapojay.bsky.social was high on my list of must-dos and it was wonderful to catch up with them throughout the weekend. Some people are every bit as nice in person as they seem on line, and their work is even better up-close. Delighted with my little collection of their prints.

(6/n) Next is Em, aka The Cookie Raptor (I don’t think they’re on Bsky, but you can find them on Insta) who makes these beautiful dino-themed cards. I bought these to give to others… but I’m keeping them for myself.

(3/n) There were so many amazing palaeoartists in attendance. It was great to finally meet @bobnichollsart.bsky.social and @markwitton.bsky.social - who are both as warm, humble and kind as they are inspiring. “Never meet your heroes” isn’t always good advice. I’d also like to highlight a few…
