Got around to framing up this awesome @sharkbitesteve.bsky.social Transformers piece that I commissioned a while back, Steve’s been involved in two of my childhood passions via Transformers and Dinosaurs, so it’s a real honour to have original art by a legend in the industry. Such a talent!

Very excited to find the advent calender with my NHM artwork already in our local Marks 'n' Sparks! Had to buy one even if it was just for the cool cutouts on the back! Now I'll be able to act out the classic T.rex v Trike confrontation!

A new piece of an old piece. Of the dozen or so Magic: The Gathering cards I did, the pygmy hippo is apparently the rarest, and the original art is long gone. I was, however, commissioned to do a new version. This meant gridding up a card to reconstruct the new version as accurately as possible.

Spinosaur v Sarcosuchus A4 private commission intended (apparently) to be turned into a tattoo. The client requested gore and a nod to the JP3 Spinosaurus.

Emperor Hawk Moth 60th birthday present for my moth-loving sister (it's her favourite type). A3 mixed media on tan paper. Bit of a first for me and nice to be able to post some non-shark art.

Belantsea. A very weird cartilaginous fish from the Bear Gulch Formation. The candy-striped fish in the foreground are Aesopichthys, the others are Discoserra. The squid-like cephalopods are Syllipsimopodi. Another piece for the shark book. Thanks to the kittens for their help.

Another shark piece. In heavy seas, a huge Cosmopolitodus bungles an attack on a family pod of the little baleen whale Piscobalena. Pisco Formation, Miocene Epoch. I've often wondered, on a piece like this, how many lines I do. I photographed the first makes made. 08.50 1st August.

A little something arrived in the post today. Actually, it's a pretty sizeable something and hard to do a flip-through with one hand - but you'll hopefully get the gist. I think @Darren Naish and I can feel pretty pleased with how it looks and can't wait for it to be released into the wild!

Thylacines. A3 private commission. A pair of Tasmanian wolves chase a pademelon (a sort of Tasmanian wallaby) My first time doing a thylacine. Definitely my first time going a pademelon.

Juvenile school shark Galeorhinus cuvieri and the weird ray-finned fish, Dibango hiding in a sea grass meadow. Early Eocene Bolca site, Italy. Another piece for the forthcoming shark book, this was inspired by a John Dory I saw during a dive I did years ago off the Dorset coast in south England.

Commissioned drawing for the forthcoming Enniskillen comicon - an Action Force Eel! I have fond memories of the Eels, especially what might have been Simon Furman's greatest line of dialogue - ever! Anyone else interested, DM me for details.

A young Ptychodus and trio of Pachyrhizodus enjoy a seasonal glut of Protostega hatchlings. My logic is that adult Ptychodus may have been too large to feed on little turtles but they would have been a useful periodic dietary supplement to juveniles.

The Fourth will be with you... I loved the final clash between Obi-Wan and Darth Maul. Always thought he would have given Maul a respectful send-off. I wanted to 'imagine' that scene, Kenobi on his dewback, looking back thoughtfully at the funeral pyre. This is colour pencils on A4 red paper.

Alien I did using acrylic brush pens on plum-coloured paper - about A4. I bought some coloured paper during a trip to LA last year and been meaning to try them out. This stock didn't take colour pencil that well and ended up trying out the brush pens on it. Was fun and a bit different for me.

#ArtBoost today is for DJ Washington (I can't find him on BSky), palaeoartist and conservation biology graduate based in the US, producing striking, bold, sometimes stylized art of ancient animals. It sure would be incredible if a book called MESOZOIC ART II included a section of his art, right?
