Decided to repair her leg with a little bit of gold leaf. Because such a beautiful animal deserves that. I’ve been working hard on creating some autumnal/ancient woodland inspired art lately and I hope to share it soon. I’m also going to draw a stag beetle.

We found at the bottom of an old tree stump, a beautifully preserved female stag beetle and totally desiccated. Sadly one of her legs broke off on the way home. I’ll try and repair it. Any advice on how to keep beetle specimens? I don’t think I’ll attempt to pin her.

I'm working on a zine/collection called 'Museum Ghosts' This is a culmination of my museum sketches. I like to go to traditional museums with many older displays.

Ode to olms… Olms are aquatic salamanders. They can only be found in caves within the Dinaric Alps. They live in complete darkness and sometimes don’t move for years. I love them.

Art will resume shortly. I’m upset with the world at the moment. All I can do is buy plants and make an indoor garden. 🪴

I came across some childhood artwork whilst clearing out paperwork. Guitar Dinosaur (Age 6) Vs Jolene Troodon (Age 31) #paleoart

I picked up my special abstract piece from the framers and I'm so happy with it. This was drawn/painted on location at a chambered cairn called 'Cairn Holy' in Dumfries and Galloway. This was made using handmade natural pigments (apart from the blue). I want to make more art like this.

I’ve nearly finished ‘Jolene’ the Troodon. I’m also working on my ground sloth today. ☀️ If Jolene ends up looking nice. I really like the composition and colours; so I might attempt a much larger version. #paleoart

I’m really out of my comfort zone and this was supposed to be a bank holiday break. I don’t know if this Troodon piece will ever be finished. But I’m sticking with it (for now) as I really like my sketch.

Dancing with big chickens

Troodon I got some new handmade paper and wanted to try it out. So I decided to draw @mtstan.bsky.social ‘s favourite dinosaur. In my imagination Troodon is quite owl-like and I wanted to show this. Hopefully I’ll have time for more dinosaur related artwork in the near future. #paleoart

A life-sized bronze statue has been unveiled on the island of Papa Westray, Orkney, in memory of the last known Great Auk Pinguinus impennis killed there in 1813. The statue is an exact replica of the preserved remains of the bird, which are held by the Natural History Museum.

I believe that short-faced kangaroos are one of the hardest megafauna to draw. But it’s super enjoyable trying to work them out. I have a few more inked poses to do before I start the final commission. 🤩

I’m having a lot of fun with this ground sloth commission. It’s full of energy and texture. It’s going to have as much of a background as we can handle. Hopefully it should be ready by the end of the month. 🥳
