Map I made of some important Burgess Shale sites. Many people think the Burgess Shale is a monolith, one environment with hundreds of species. However, this is not the case. Each site can vary a lot. Deep brine seaps to shallow shelves, and a bunch inbetween.

Come be my boss! The North Dakota Geological Survey is hiring the State Geologist position. They are casting a wide net in terms of professional experience, including paleontology given the strong program we have here. To apply go to

Spiny little friend. A quick doodle of Haolong dongi, a newly described ornithopod from China with... spikes. Numerous sharp spines grew from the animal's neck and back, seemingly different from all other known dinosaur integuments. Definitely wasn't on my bingo card for 2026 dinosaur finds!

Is
@societyofvertpaleo.bsky.social
being serious here? No, the presence of a name on an email doesn't establish wrongdoing. But the *content* of those emails is what so many members, including myself, are outraged about. This response does nothing but further degrade my confidence in SVP leadership

This is one of my favorite formation pieces josch has been able to capture so far. For how important Joggins is and how old it is, there's not a lot of fauna, which means each animal gets to breathe a lot more within the piece.

Friend reminder that Phylogenetics & restorations aren't gospel in light of a recent ornithopod paper, remember that all Phylogenies are wrong to some extent & that just because someone restored an animal one way doesn't instantly mean its correct. Diagrams are made by people & can, & will be wrong.

Dsung Intersex Crest I believe that the original sketch (made a few years ago) was brought on by my anger at the invisibility of intersex people in the public eye, along with how their parents often treat them. I had no idea what to do for the background tbh
