Hey #microscopy 🧪 folks. Have you all noticed similar dark current patterns with cameras where you have a nonlinear response to exposure time? 100ms and 1s exposures are extremely quiet but once I do a 60s exposure, certain pixels just get super bright.

Great essay...only thing I want to add is a shout out to the herpes viruses. If you are reading this, it's >90% you have 2 or 3 of these behind your eyes as well EBV - cancer & MS CMV & HSVs - kill babies VZV (chicken "pox" & shingles) - scarring, even blindness, & neurodegeneration

What evidence is there it applies to preclinical cancer biology? ~2/3 of Bayer study and Reproducibility Project were tests of generalization, not replication, while the Amgen commentary gave too few details to assess. Are there other systematic efforts we should know? (And discuss with trainees!)

Mostly, these simply aren't replication studies. In the Bayer survey, the caption of Figure 1 discloses 2/3 of the experiments didn't use the same cell lines or assays. The Amgen (Begley) commentary actually gives no information whatsoever about what experiments were conducted or how.

Should I agree to review for a MDPI journal? Postdocs don't get asked very often, I don't mind doing it (enjoy even), and it appears reasonably within my expertise, but OTOH there's the reputation and constant special issue spam...
