As a heads up this is disinfo. The rifle used is suspected to have been a 30.06. Turan (the company that makes the pictured bullet) only makes up to 5.56 rifle caliber rounds. So unless the feds are wrong about the caliber of the rifle they found (unlikely) this can't be an explanation.

We don't really know anything about the shooter. Entirely possible this was a veteran I guess but nothing I've seen so far suggests that over, for example, a competent hunter. Could be an AR but just as likely it was a bolt action in something like .270 (in other words, a deer rifle)
