After a week of rain in Vermont, our ducks are showing the fine art of dabbling in mud. This is a natural foraging behavior where the ducks sift through mud with their bills finding worms and insects while letting the inedible stuff fall away.

Baby Gertie is growing up so fast! She and her best friend Eloise arrived here back in March and it has been pure joy watching these happy, curious girls grow up together!

Igor came in with a group of turkey chicks back in July, but since he is nearly blind his brothers were starting to bully him. 😢 This is why he has been moved to the indoor area where our other special needs birds live! He’s getting spoiled with lots of love, treats, and enrichment like his bells!

We have the most wonderful news! This is the news we've been hoping desperately for since March: OLIVIA AND GLADYS ARE SAFE! The judge ruled against their former owner in the forfeiture case, so Olivia and Gladys will be safe and fed and warm and loved here at Merrymac for the rest of their lives. ❤️

Students from The Mill School enjoyed learning how to groom Pluto today. It was pouring down rain so most of the horses were inside which allowed some the horses time to get nicely groomed by volunteers. These students come weekly to our educational program we offer @merrymacfarmsanctuary

Halloween treats for everyone! 👻

Best friends Shadow and Jar Jar are ALWAYS together! They could not have come from more different circumstances. Jar Jar (on the right) came from a loving home that could no longer care for him. Shadow barely survived a terrible neglect case.

While we kept the rest of the sanctuary was enjoying pumpkin, we had a huge day of veterinary care. Three different vet teams came to the sanctuary - horse vet, goat vet, and small animal vet - to help keep our animals as healthy as possible 🧵

There is something so humbling knowing that sweet little survival Chloe can bring such happiness and awareness during our Humane Education after school program. The students are so drawn to her story of survival.

We are so sorry to share that we lost Batgirl and Caramel bunnies within days of each other 💔. We loved these two beautiful girls dearly. Bunnies, as prey animals, often hide health issues until they become overwhelming to their systems. They are also fragile creatures. Run free our little ones 🌈

Sheep, goats, pigs, birds, and many other animals love pumpkin! If you have intact pumpkins after Halloween or jack o'lanterns that are carved but not painted or rotting and don't have candle wax inside, contact your local farm sanctuary to see if they would like them as donations!
