@theirishfor.bsky.social please help. The fab Ella McSweeney just wrote “on your honkers” in the IT. My other half is perplexed as it’s obv “hunkers”, but I went to school with kids that said “dunkey”. The Louth town of Collon is pronounced with a hearty u sound: is this a mother tongue issue?

I and one friend organised our school debs in 1985. Never realised how much those organisation and planning skills would stand to my for life! And it was a great night/early morning. 🥳

Really interesting article. What has always intrigued me is how the phenomenon of the Debs Ball went from niche activity to mandatory rite of passage in a few short years, without social media, mobile phones or any other technology to spread the idea.

I thought we left this kind of criminal behaviour back in the other gaff.

I argued that community building around knowledge is a very Irish thing to do. We only need to look at the phenomenon of @theirishfor.bsky.social for proof. People want a fun way to learn new things, and after seeing the Wiki Community at Celtic Knot, I firmly believe there are parallels
