Because of an accident I was late to the trans human rights demonstration in Parliament Square. With less than 24 hours notice there were still more people there than the “gender-critical” transphobes could muster with £100,000 in advertising and with 6 months notice.

Exploring new depths to the word Misnomer, the UK’s Equality and Human Rights Commission has issued a loathsome set of rules targeting trans people. In response, a reminder that in doing so the U.K. breaches EU data protection law & its own adequacy decision.

EHRC Code: 1. The point of the Equality Act was to prevent discrimination. So if you were discriminated against, you had (in most cases) a route to make a complaint, the law to back you up and a route to make inequality expensive enough that most companies complied (to some extent).

Australia’s Federal Court offers a lesson in how courts can read equalities legislation in a way that recognises “sex” is not a term fixed by biology or birth while also challenging the discriminatory effects of gender stereotyping and policing. Q: Why did France & New Zealand have conversion therapy bans in 6 weeks but the UK failed to do so in 8 years…? A: It’s straightforward to legislate a trans-inclusive conversion therapy ban - you just ban it everywhere - but very difficult to legislate one that appears trans-inclusive but isn’t.
