I don’t want to dunk on individuals here, but it’s worth being clear from a procedural perspective: Petition debates are symbolic and don’t go to a vote, so this would not disapprove the code - unlike a motion tabled by an MP or lead to that motion being given parliamentary time.

The main FWS precedent is going to continue pinging around the courts system with horrific and at times unpredictable results until we legislate. Even at Strasbourg, winning there just tells government to pass laws remedying the breach.

Why are so many organisations’ responses like this? The LGBT+ sector has a structural problem - most funded organisations are service provision charities, not campaigners. Even the ones that look like campaigners so often have their income propped up by training, advice, accreditation or services.
