It’s day 21 of the #DramaJobChallenge and I need an office worker. Since J-dramas do salarymen like no others, I shall pick #10ThingsIWantToDoBeforeITurn40. It’s got the cuteness with a huge side order of pining of #CherryMagic and #OldFashionedCupcake, but with a touch of realistic angst too.

(Belatedly!) I thought I’d remembered a Taiwanese drama with air steward ML for the #DramaJobChallenge day 20, but I got it wrong. So instead I’ll give you all the trailer for what appears to be unhinged terrible slapstick comedy Thai show #Jetlag, which I’ve never watched but truly is cabin crew!

Day 19 of the #DramaJobChallenge is shop owner. Since the wonderful #FlourishedPeony business has already been chosen by someone, I’ll pick one of my favourite C-drama shorts - #TheKillerIsAlsoRomantic - which has a fabric shop owner FL with a double identity as an assassin.

Day 17 of the #DramaJobChallenge is mobster, and who else could it be but #HIStory3Trapped? (Free Tang Yi!!) My first ever Taiwanese drama is a glorious trope-fest of delight. Sexy hot gangster boss meets goofy sweet yet competent cop who’s a tiny bit obsessed with him. #Trapped

Fading fast so I’ll make it quick. Military general for #DramaJobChallenge day 16. Since it’s fresh in my mind and I don’t think she’s been chosen yet, I’ll go for our second fearless female general paired with Cheng Lei this summer - in #ShadowLove.

Tired but still hanging on here. Day 15 of #DramaJobChallenge. Film director. I immediately thought of #SunshineByMySide, since the FL is an advertising director (she also co-owns the filming company) and the ML is an artist/designer and aspiring film director.

I don’t much watch military dramas - and to me “soldier” is a modern role. Of the two I have watched, I’ll pass on the obvious K-drama #DescendantsOfTheSun and instead pick C-drama #YouAreMyHero because I enjoyed that more! It’s still a soldier and medic couple, though. 😁 #DramaJobChallenge day 13

Day 12 of the #DramaJobsChallenge requires a police officer/detective. There are many great K-drama options, but I’ll pick a C-drama with the traditional lead pairing of “tough cop and possibly criminal effete genius” since I’m currently embroiled in a fantastic group watch of #JusticeInTheDark.

Dancer is another slightly tricky one, but I’m picking Thai BL drama #ThamePo for day 11 of the #DramaJobsChallenge. It’s a drama about a 5-member Thai idol group, including dancer Nano. The drama itself is a mix of sweet and gentle romance along with a “trying to get the group back together” plot.

It’s day 10 of the #DramaJobsChallenge. Since many have (rightly!) gone for the paragon PA Yoo Eunho in #LoveScout, I’ll choose a more left-field drama: Taiwanese BL #YouAreMine. There’s an irascible CEO who burns through secretaries at a rate of knots and his newest hire is bumbling yet soothing.

Finding a scientist in an Asian drama is surprisingly difficult. However, there is the J-drama #EyeLoveYou, where the ML starts out as a marine biology PhD. Although he goes on to intern in a eco chocolate company, the 2ML still works in the lab, and multiple fathers (figures) are marine biologists.

I’m getting in early today with my cafe owner choice for day 8 of the #DreamDramaChallenge as I’m not feeling well and may soon huddle in bed. I pick Taiwanese BL drama #KisekiDearToMe, where our younger lead trains as a patisserie chef and opens a bakery cafe while waiting to reunite with his love.

Surprisingly, given just how many modern C-dramas feature a business CEO character, almost everyone seems to have picked K-dramas for day 7 of the #DramaJobChallenge. I’m also going with one for my choice - #Encounter - which is both a great noona romance and a great escape-the-evil-overloads story.

What’s cooking in the kitchen? There are loads of chef characters in Asian dramas and I could have picked so many, but for day 6 of the #DramaJobChallenge, I’ve plumped for K-drama #WokOfLove. It was one of my early dramas and it holds a dear place in my heart. Also Lee Junho.

It’s day 5 of the #DramaJobChallenge so I need an athlete. My mind immediately went to Im Siwan’s sprinter in K-drama #RunOn. It’s a grownup romance that’s also about finding out who you are and what that means, via a meeting of two worlds: pro sports and film translation. Love it!

Musicians are the focus of day 4 of the #DramaJobChallenge. I considered #LetMeBeYourKnight (which is a very bingeable K-pop band romance drama), but then felt I’d rather showcase #MyFatedBoy as a less well-known C-drama that’s a really lovely watch. Also noona romances rock!

Ugh. So after 3 or so weeks without a functioning TV, I had a new one delivered today. Bit of a phaff trying to get it to recognise the Apple box (which is how I watch basically everything) but I got there in the end.

Women characters no longer wait to be chosen in K-dramas This year's Bechdel Choice 10 drama series reflect a trend for female characters defined not by their relationships with men, but by their own ambitions, relationships and agency.

On day 3 of the #DramaJobChallenge I need an actor. I considered the big hitters - like Dilraba in #YouAreMyGlory or Kim Young Dae in #ShootingStars - but decided to stick with yesterday’s BL theme. My pick is the ever upbeat despite circumstances Kang Seo Joon in fave comfort watch K-BL #ToMyStar.

For #DramaJobChallenge day 2, it’s a medical professional we need. I thought about the obvious K-drama doctors - #HospitalPlaylist - and the less obvious- #YongPal - and then decided to swerve into Thai BL territory instead. I give you the timeloop-breaking ER resident Dr Tin from #Triage.

There are so many great K-dramas I’ve watched with lawyers in them. It’s very hard to choose just one. In another challenge, I used #LawlessLawyer so this time I’ll pick #OneTheWoman. This role was almost perfectly made for Honey Lee. She gave us such a crazy fun ride! #DramaJobChallenge

It seems Viki is branching out further. I’ve just seen they’ve added a Vietnamese drama (from 2020) - which is the first one I’ve ever noticed. I have seen more and more Thai shows on Viki in the past six or so months and more recently a Filipino drama too. Interesting times.
