Ofelia Torres, the teenage Chicago Public Schools student whose fight against cancer while her father was detained by ICE came to represent the federal government's overreach during Operation Midway Blitz, has died. Brave young woman. I will never forget her. RIP.

This young girl was battling stage 4 cancer when ICE agents took her Dad. Ofelia leveraged social media to fight for her Dad’s release. To call out the cruelty of ICE. She won. A judge ordered him released on compassionate grounds & they spent her last month’s together.

Prisons are for people who've been CONVICTED of crimes. Most people in these warehouses - without proper food or sanitation or worse - haven't even been CHARGED with crimes. And thousands are CHILDREN. This will be another of America's greatest shames.

ICE told nurses this Minneapolis man “purposefully ran headfirst into a brick wall.” What actually happened is that they pulled him from a car, beat him so viciously with a steel baton that he had 8 skull fractures, 5 life-threatening brain hemorrhages, and couldn’t remember he had a daughter.

The gall. He shot a woman who posed no threat to him and then boasted about it as he and his colleagues falsely maligned *her* reputation to cover it up. The only question should whether his texts are admitted as evidence at his criminal trial.
