When I reported on the 15 Minute Cities protests in Oxford I was struck by the way lots of people I spoke to described themselves as a car driver in a way that really felt like an underrecognised form of identity politics. Having said that OH MY GOD

We have an *extremely* important announcement to make. From Wednesday, we will be launching our puffin live cam, coming to you from the Farne Islands. So you can watch puffins all day long. In celebration, please enjoy this clip of puffins being really busy for 39 seconds straight.

Brown Hare sauntering up the road just outside Nethy Bridge. Fortunately passing car saw it and stopped, or the driver saw me standing on the verge photographing the Hare! Disappeared into rough ground where Kestrel had been hunting.

In the UK, solar farms are becoming bird havens.

Solar panels were known to attract birds, but they are now drawing in species never seen in these areas before
New research from the University of Cambridge has found that some birds species are making a triumphant return to the area around solar panels in England.

My lens can't always keep up with the camera and sometimes warps the image, particularly with birds in flight. It usually just annoys me, but every now and again it unexpectedly produces something a bit magical ❤️ Blue tit, Liberton

You may not like hearing this but actually free on-street car parking is objectively a ridiculous idea when you think about it for a second. Imagine if I plonked literally any other bulky item of personal property in front of my house and expected it to not require permission or payment!

Not one of the usual suspects in my local park...a water rail! Normally shy and secretive birds this one walked out in to the open for a few seconds...then totally in character, disappeared!

I had several close encounters yesterday with a brave wee female kingfisher on the Water of Leith. She flew over to my side of the river & landed circa 10 feet away. Unperturbed by passersby (except some off the leash dogs) she proceeded to catch several fish.

Male & female kingfisher plus young otter from the Water of Leith on Sunday. The female kingfisher followed the otter for a while catching small fish disturbed by it. The otter was v bold, hunting close to the bank (& several onlookers).
