This article on the BBC contains the following paragraph which... simply seems to be a fiction? I've read the investigation, it very clearly states it wasn't the fault of any one individual and was technical/configuration issue.

My latest: Move over bat tunnel, here’s the wild story of how HS2 were forced to build a multi-million pound bridge for a road that… doesn’t actually exist.
loading . . .
How HS2 built a bridge to nowhere
A state-of-the-art road bridge has been built deep in the heart of rural Buckinghamshire. Designed to carry traffic over the HS2 railway, there's just one tiny problem - there's no actual road.

“Stay in your lane!” an increasingly universal view across much of British politics and one which is somehow presented as inherently virtuous.

You've probably seen this paper but I was doing some research on my part of town and it was really interesting and useful.

after days of grifters and con men at CES we stumbled upon the booth for VLC. they were all dressed as wizards and told us, "we have nothing to sell, we just decided to show up". i told them I'd been using their software to pirate media for 15 years and they said "keep doing that"

Just watching your video about the house clearing mission from MWII and you're talking about scale... a random fact you might enjoy is the outdoor set for the British TV soap Coronation Street, until about 2013, was built at 7/10th scale to save space.

I once accidentally sent a sharepoint notification to all staff in my Uni and this was exactly how it played out. Why people can't just hit delete and move on with their day.

When someone who builds LLMs tells me “Right now I could build AIs of my self that could teach as well as me,” my conclusion is not that AIs are able to teach well…

Last month I was shopping for a fire blanket to hang over the pellet stove for safety, and the 5-star blanket had thousands of reviews about how easy it was to install, how good it looked, and how safe it made them feel. The 1-star reviews all said "the fire blanket caught on fire"

At its heart, Star Trek is a utopian fantasy about a society so advanced that they are capable of holding productive meetings that last no longer than three minutes

What really happened after California raised its minimum wage to $20 for fast food workers
What would happen to the fast food industry if it had to pay its workers something closer to a living wage?

🧵SALT🧵 It's been snowing in the UK and the road gritters are out in force, begging the question: Have you ever wondered where that grit actually COMES from? The answer is more magical, beautiful and fascinating than you probably realised. 1/14
