ERCOT's Kristi Hobbs told the ERCOT Board the risk of energy emergencies is much lower this summer. We've added about 10,000 megawatts in a year "most of it from solar and batteries, that puts us in a better position." Indeed. 16% chance last summer and 0.48% this summer.

We knew China's rush to install solar and wind was going to be wild but WOW😮. The solar panels & wind turbines China installed in May alone, in a single month, will generarate as much electricity as: -Poland -Sweden -Norway -the UAE -North Carolina&Maryland or -Washington&Wyoming

And relatedly - China had 887 gigawatts of installed solar generation at the end of 2024, and has added another 198 gigawatts through May. Sometime last month, China installed its first terawatt of solar power generation capacity.
