I love the Failbetter team dearly, but: every year they (my friends) go on a trip without me, taking my husband, who is also the household chef (I eat sad food). And now they've added 'went to North Wales, staying 20mins from Olivia's favourite holiday place'. It feels pointed.

Each year at our gathering I give a presentation inspired in some way by Elden Ring, so this felt like the guidance of grace.

Our team gathers annually somewhere in the UK to work on things together, and see local sights to inspire Mandrake and Fallen London. This year we were so on brand that we arrived in North Wales mere days before most of it shut down so they could film Elden Ring.

I don't see the problem

I used to think there was an annoying amount of variance in the way I brewed my coffee (despite being the exact same, every day), but NOPE turns out it's just my nervous system arbitrarily[1] dialling the intensity of my sense of taste up and down. [^1] It's not arbitrary.

Finally watched Interstellar last night. I had fun, but I’m also still mad about how little sense it makes. I can only assume the lack of nutrition from a corn-only diet has messed with humanity’s brains, because the entire plot hinges on these guys being the dumbest astronauts alive.

At the start of the year, I decided to venture onto social media less. It’s still useful, so I set two ‘check social media’ windows each week. It’s staggering how boring social media becomes when it’s not available to fill the gaps in my time. I log on to check stuff and am out within 5 mins.
