This is the sort of statement that was expected from every university president and law firm partner over the last year. That those statements weren’t made played a huge part in where we are now and people will remember.

I will also add that tenure alone is not sufficient. All TT faculty should be unionized! The real secret is that Canadian academic jobs are among the very best (although far from most prestigious) in the world because most come with both. And we have the salary and working conditions that result.
