The repeated placement of periods after the word "run"—a pause and therefore a symbolic paradox that exposes the purposeless of running: "there is nowhere to run to" (17)

The structure today feels chaotic, like roots (or thoughts) growing where they will, within the space that they have, looking for purchase to leave containment. I also like the use of line breaks. It has the feel of shelves with varying amounts of stuff left on them. #PoemADayJuly 1/

#PoemADayJuly Day 6: “…piled against slippery planks.” An action that happened off the page. Life that’s been intentionally stowed away in a dark place to be forgotten, but refuses, hunting for a sliver of light in the dark.

#PoemADayJuly 5. I’m drawn to the poem’s contrasts between literal and figurative places with terrible Wi-Fi. This made me think more about what “terrible Wi-Fi” means. It can be both silence and noise, but both represent a lack of connection, showing how grief appears in many places/times/ways.

Day 5 #PoemADayJuly This is a knotty poem for me, the kind that really requires multiple readings. First thing that stand out to me are the religious/spiritual reference points that almost serve as punctuations of experience juxtaposed with “despite my disbelief.” There is loss and it remains.

“The stretches of highway on the long drive home after burial.” - for sure feeling this both literally and figuratively as we buried my mom in Alabama 2 months ago then drove home to Georgia. Again a reminder that poetry stands in the gap when we lack the words. #PoemADayJuly

“The cluttered attic. Most of the past.” When people leave us- children grow up, parents die, houses sell, families move- what do we keep? The “static” remains- joy and grief intertwined. #PoemADayJuly

#PoemADayJuly Places with terrible Wi-Fi I notice that this is a young person's poem. I don't know how to honor their grief and reconcile my experience with static as a signal reaching past its limits to still be heard. The change from analog to digital transmission is evident here. ✏️/1

Today’s poem was hard. Hughes uncovers the great juxtaposition of America and the American dream: The only part that’s ever been real is the dreamer. The rest of it was build on the blood, bones, and brutalization of the least powerful of us. #PoemADayJuly

Most of these are new to me. However, the Rios poem is particularly meaningful. My mom had a stroke in January, the giving is all I have right now. I give her time and patience, I give her encouragement and love, I hope I give her hope. That's what I give. #PoemADayJuly

I didn’t initially vibe with today’s poem, and then my congressmen betrayed our most vulnerable citizens and yeah Giving IS all I have right now. My service, my work in my community, is all I have. It’s hope, pain, and planting seeds I won’t see. The poem read to me like a long + #PoemADayJuly

+ equation and it all adds up, right? When giving is all we have, it’s both/and, but the community is better for it. This poem is about being a teacher at the end of the world. There’s a painful juxtaposition in this life but we give because the total matters. I vibe with it now. #PoemADayJuly

Also our bodies' ability to cool themselves taps out at startlingly low humidity levels. For people in the eastern third of the US, air conditioning is a life saving necessity at temps you wouldn't think are a problem.
