In this week’s Talking Climate, I unpack why recent cuts to scientific programs and data don’t only affect climate research in the U.S. They weaken the knowledge infrastructure we rely on to protect public health, manage risk, and make good decisions around the world.

I’m ambivalent on phone bans in schools, but it does irk me that much of the energy that could/should be spent addressing these foundational issues ⤵️ will now be spent arguing about phone policies & procedures. So kids will still feel bored/alienated but now they can’t DM about it. Cool I guess?

10 years ago, the book that Zac and I co-wrote – Building School 2.0: How to Create the Schools We Need – was released into the wild. In revisiting that book, Zac and I both find that while it was fun and challenging to essentially put everything we believed about education at the time into one book, with almost every chapter there is so much more to be said.

The point of teaching literature is simply this: Every story we read is a new lens on the world. When we read diverse books, we grow as people. We become wiser and more empathetic - more able see other people. SCOTUS’ ruling allows intolerance to continue and makes us a weaker nation.
