Misogyny is a serious driver of abusive reviews. William Girardi and Alix Ohlin being the most egregious example I knew of before this one. Anyone who writes a review like this of a young, vulnerable creator is not a critic - they're just a wrong'un that needs to be shunned.

More review abuse in the broadsheets. I don't care what sort of poet Pennie is, there are things you should refrain from saying in a review - not as a critic, but as a gentleman.

It’s galling.

I wanted to get a video of this ghost crab but every time I got close to their hole they scuttled back in, so I tried getting clever with it. I made a little sandcastle and shoved my phone into it, hit record, and walked away. Crab was VERY suspicious of this addition to their environment.

I gave my heart and soul to that place. Built entire sections for journalists pushed out of their home countries. When the writer I hired, Jamal Khashoggi was murdered by Saudi Arabia, they paraded me around as a symbol for press freedom. I put MY LIFE on the line to defend journalism and WaPo.
