This is a fantastic example of everything wrong with the "progressive" wing of the San Francisco political establishment. You cannot claim to care about the affordability crisis while espousing pro-car, anti-upzoning policy positions and messaging. Sorry!

After an evening of arguing about fertility on Bluesky, I gotta say: you people are gonna be SO annoying when they pass the constitutional amendment in 2085 disenfranchising citizens over 90 so they can roll back the 10-hour weekly eldercare conscription program and fund more Lingala daycares

Ms. Kim’s single payer home insurance plan would almost certainly force urban homeowners in low fire risk areas to heavily subsidize homeowners in high fire risk areas. Then, when it inevitably suffers catastrophic losses thanks to a major fire, it will bankrupt the state.

Single payer healthcare makes sense because the risk of getting hurt or sick is random; so price discrimination is unfair to unlucky people. Pricing risk to homes, OTOH, is good and useful. If you choose to buy a house in a flood plain or fire risk zone, you *should* pay higher insurance premiums!

The internecine wars about Twitter and Bluesky always feel like a 30 year high school reunion where some middle-aged people still clearly identify as “cheerleader” and “varsity” while other people cannot remember any of the people in the room. The people who ignored the reunion invite won.

Housing is distributed by people’s ability to pay. Refusing to build expensive new homes in your neighborhood does not make the rich people disappear or move elsewhere, it just ensures that they’ll outbid current residents for existing homes and renovate them into luxury housing.
