Christianity Today, a prominent evangelical media outlet, is running multiple pieces against the Trump regime, including this piece by former Southern Baptist Seminary dean Russell Moore trying to reclaim Romans 13 from fascist apologists.

Christians, Let’s Stop Abusing Romans 13 - Christianity Today
Believers often use the passage to wave away state violence, but that’s the opposite of what Paul intended.

This is a wildly irresponsible headline by NBC News (that I discovered via chyron on our local news channel over lunch). Greenland can’t “cost as much as $700 billion”, because it’s not for sale! Could post “Buying a unicorn could cost $700 billion” because both are equally possible!

This Mississippi trip seems rougher this year - loneliness is hitting very hard, plus the twins need a lot of attention. But the kids are having a good Christmas, and I’m powering through. Might even get back to running in the morning if I can swing the time.

Happy "Wake Up Dead Man is on Netflix Now Day" to all who celebrate! (It's me, I'm celebrating. You probably should too, I can't shut up about it.)

While I like Verstappen, I think it’s good for him and the sport if his margin losing the world championship is smaller than what he lost by throwing away points hitting Russell earlier this season.

Just saw an early release of Wake Up Dead Man, the next Knives Out movie. That may genuinely be one of my favorite movies of all time. It won’t be everyone’s, but I think it’s one of mine. I’ll have a lot more to say as I process it, ponder on it, and see it again…but that was truly phenomenal.

I wasn’t present for when the car hit 400k miles, but I am reliably informed that my daughter took this picture, and not the driver. ;) (And she cut off the last digit, so it looks like it’s only 40k miles, but I assure you this Prius has seen more adventures than that!)

If I posted on Facebook for people to see what Trump said about Kirk’s murder, the Enlightened Centrists I know would scold me for politicizing the tragedy, and reserve nary a word for what the President of the United States is doing.

Where's Waldo: The Murder has gone digital! I love the in-print version, have immediately bought the app (free to try with a single in-app purchase to unlock the rest), and this is really slick.

being chronically late or constantly flaking on plans doesn't make you a bad friend. it's a real condition and should be given infinite grace by everyone in your life. being completely unreliable is nothing to be ashamed of. in fact, it may even make you more virtuous than people who are considerate

Alright, I’m flying to London tomorrow. I could use something interesting to watch on the plane. I’ve seen very few movies that have come out in the past few years, so there’s some fertile ground there (but I’m open to anything I can download ahead of time). Suggestions?

Of the shows we saw on Broadway while in New York, obviously Hadestown and Wicked were fantastic. And The Play That Goes Wrong was excellent. But I cannot stop thinking about Dead Outlaw, and it’s a right shame that it didn’t get a longer run.

My fourth time seeing Hadestown, and certainly not my last. This time I got to see it on Broadway. (Myra Molloy as Eurydice was especially phenomenal!) It’s probably my favorite piece of any kind of media. I love the many layers, and the hopeful re-telling in the face of sure tragedy.

As we are carefully balancing the weights between our three matching suitcases before our flight to New York, I’m thinking fondly of the time in my youth when I flew back to college and checked a trash bag of laundry

Alright, Jon Klassen has become my favorite children’s author. One book was kind of meh (“We Found a Hat”), but the other three (“I Want My Hat Back”, “This Is Not My Hat”, and especially “The Rock From the Sky”) are all _phenomenal_.

kind of just endlessly sad and grieving that there are so few voices in the public sphere making the basic principled argument that immigration is an affirmative good in every way and the best way for this country to serve humanity is to welcome people who want or need to leave their homes

Cynicism and misanthropy can be really funny. At the same time, we must remember they are ultimately toxic, and wallowing in them too long is corrosive to one’s soul. For our own good we must see the good in others.

It's been a brutal, exhausting day. But I got a lot of things done, the twins had a fantastic day, Williams qualified P6 & P7 in Formula 1, and the Dallas Stars just won Game 6 to move on to the NHL Western Conference Finals. So I'm calling it a good day regardless of how I feel.

My father passed away this Saturday. There’s much that could be said, but my most unexpected learning is what a kindness it is to prepare your loved ones for what comes after your own passing. To give them ease amidst their urgent sorrow is such a blessing.

My favorite Easter comic by far - yes it’s silly and makes me giggle every time I look at it, and also it’s profound the power God has given us for good or for evil, even to inflict that evil upon God.
