Simi just wrote up an announcement that he’s done cooperating RubyCentral and it’s another very important read in this whole situation. Notably, he confirms everything in Joel Drapper’s write-up that’s already been circulating and really puts Ruby Central on blast.

This is the best, no bullshit explanation of what’s been going on, and as far as I can tell 100% lines up with what I know about the details here, including non-public ones, fwiw

"[you] discovered that people with no active affiliation or agreement in place had top level privileges to some of this critical infrastructure." The people you removed about were actively paid for contractual on-call support through Ruby Central. Far from unaffiliated.

Ruby Central had clear, indisputable and inarguable ways to increase their security posture, including constraining production admin access, constraining deployment access, and constraining gem push access. Those are within their power as operators of rubygems.org and not as non-owners of the OSS.

one thing that initially felt strange to me at fb but that i eventually started to appreciate is that there’s an automated system that will disable your test (and file a task for you) if your test is more than some % flaky. all the way down to automatically disabling it unless it’s marked critical

the thing about so many tests i have encountered, is that they simply do not catch bugs, and after a while, are engineered to avoid catching bugs, because breaking on every feature change becomes tiresome
