I genuinely can't believe people are boosting the "ruby core has taken ownership of bundler" thing like it's supposed to smooth everything over. all it does it reinforce the fact the bundler team had their project stolen with ruby central acting as a fence

thought exercise: on what grounds would the node foundation be able to take control of npm. if you're hailing the bundler takeover as obviously good, you ought to have an answer to this question

It’s getting very difficult to contort any sort of story that could explain good faith from Ruby Central at this point.

4. It hasn’t explained to the community what kind of pressure it was under to perform this takeover or who were pressuring them. 5. It hasn’t rescheduled the Q&A that was promised to the community. 6. It has refused to come to the table and negotiate with the maintainers and/or community members.

As of right now: 1. Ruby Central is *still* in possession of the GitHub organisation and gems that it stole. 2. It hasn’t published any kind of justification for this. 3. It has threatened an ex employee for responsibly disclosing that it left him with root access to live production systems.

Every step of the way, we have engaged in good faith. Every step of the way, they decided to treat us as disposable and shit on our reputations. Ruby Central needs to take a real good look in the mirror, stop digging themselves into a deeper hole, and make some very significant and public changes.

This is the first release since I started contributing! A lot of my changes, like tests, fuzzing, benchmarks, nushell support, Intel Mac support and parsing the new download format for 3.3.x, are now released. It's been fun working on a new open source Rust tool.

Another point: the RubyGems.org Service uses other open source code such as Ruby and Linux. If the security argument was true, it would equally apply to these other open source packages that Ruby Central does not control. In fact it uses my package Phlex. And they don’t control that either.

I appreciate the feedback, but I stand by my fact-check. This takeover was not required for security. @rubycentral.org mislead us.

I claimed the RubyGems takeover was NOT required for security because RC could decide which code to deploy. People suggested perhaps there wasn’t enough time to implement these measures. But ex-operators confirmed to me that deploys were MANUAL, and it would only require changing access to Shipit.
