Lack of funding for Ruby Central was a problem in the past. And we are to blame for that. But my feeling is no amount of money will fix the issues there today. In fact, until these issues are fixed I would strongly encourage paying Ruby Central members to cancel their memberships.

Simi just wrote up an announcement that he’s done cooperating RubyCentral and it’s another very important read in this whole situation. Notably, he confirms everything in Joel Drapper’s write-up that’s already been circulating and really puts Ruby Central on blast.

I just read the signed 13 page merger document between Ruby Central and Ruby Together. No where does it specify that ownership of the RubyGems source code is being transferred to Ruby Central. Ruby Together never owned it in the first place. Ruby Central are lying.

I don’t know what this exactly looks like but the alternative to Ruby Central should be decentralised. Maybe we’ll call it Ruby Decentral.

Ages ago, when I was still a student, I taught myself Ruby on Rails for my senior thesis and fell in love. Fifteen years later, and I’ve used Rails at every job I’ve ever held in the tech industry. Fifteen years, and I still love Rails! But there’s something rotten at its core, and we share a name.

With a weak orange puppet in the Whitehouse, Putin obviously thinks a small strike on NATO will result in no response and potentially us withholding for ourselves weapons which would otherwise have been sent to Ukraine. He’s probably right.

I don’t understand why Poland isn’t invoking Article 5 after last night’s attack. A weak NATO response now will just invite more aggression and undermine its deterrence effect. NATO should destroy Russia’s drone manufacturing capability and impose a no-fly zone over Ukraine.

I’m really happy that ERB is getting some love for the poor folks that have to use it at work, but Phlex is still the best server-side view layer for Rails, by far. Phlex also has an ERB sidecar mode to help you migrate from ViewComponent, so we’re going to switch that to HERB too.

Linear feels incredibly slow and laggy after using Basecamp for a few minutes. But that’s not the main issue. Linear is designed around tracking *bugs*. It’s not a product for making new things, figuring things out, planning, scoping out unknowns. It’s an app for *maintainers*, not makers.

Why not give them another two weeks and then you could threaten to give them another two weeks in two weeks time before threatening sanctions in two weeks if two weeks after that they haven’t found another way to stall for two weeks.

Take that Russia. Strongly worded condemnation #1 even includes the words ‘strongly’ and ‘condemn’
