This is one of the reasons I really love The Dispossessed - it's not solarpunk as it doesn't take place on Earth, but it does imagine what a significantly more just and equitable, post-capitalist, but still imperfect and messy, society might look like.

Dystopias have their place, but...I am so over them. We have so many cultural narratives about how things could get worse, and so few about how we could build a better world, or what that world could look like.

What I really want is fiction that's both solarpunk and anarchist(ic). So much solarpunk doesn't have much analysis of power structures and doesn't get into how decision-making works within a society. So much anarchist fiction is dystopian.

It's hard to overstate SDPD's failure yesterday. They had dozens of officers, a city-wide surveillance system, a two hour head start, and they accomplished absolutely nothing. They read the manifesto **before this happened** and it didn't occur to them to stage officers at mosques and synagogues.

I think it's important to analyze the effectiveness of tactics and strategies, to study movement history critically and keep adapting - *and* there's a large extent to which we will never know for sure what worked and what didn't, because social change is often nonlinear and unpredictable.
