I believe the Graffiti of Pompeii did so much to de-romanticise the obviously hornographic imagery of history. When some 2000 year old dickhead has chiseled "Sorry girls, Tertius fucks boy holes now" it's hard to look at a little stone statue of a woman with huge tits and go "oh, fertility goddess"

one of the greatest human triumphs of my lifetime is the relentless, unceasing, heroic effort by DECADES' worth of doctors and scientists to find a cure for a disease much of the world didn't take seriously for years because it predominantly affected a community they thought kinda deserved it
