Three high schoolers founded a book club that reads some of the country's most frequently banned books after a state law removing books with sexual content was signed in 2023. Two years later, many of the books have been reshelved and parts of the law can't be enforced.

The mundane and often unseen work we do every single day coalesces into outcomes we usually do not see coming. Every day that I commit to my soul’s work, is a blessing for me that day, and for others tomorrow.

Case in point: I'm seeing several "What changed?" posts about a coordinated demonstration across several towns and cities that happened less than 48 hours ago. Like...please be real.

Critique and argument are necessary to finding pathways forward and strategic placement of organizing efforts. But that critique must be honest and fair.

Thinking more: IMO, I think some of you need to be upfront about the assumptions embedded in your critiques of protest and organizing, specifically the idea that organizing = seeing vaguely-defined change happening immediately + idealizing social movements as perfect one-size-fits-all models.

*All the things* are important. We don't know what works at what time or when or alongside what. All we know is that what we're fighting for is worthy. And if that means we do different things, some of which that are further along or more specific than others, than so be it.

People need convincing + invitation to realize their own power and how it can contribute to collective power. They aren't going to join anything that seems lonely and/or risky just because that's how things have been done. Social movements are not always popular for this reason, among others.

LRT is why I'm a bit confused by the idea that one act of performance or a rally is not effective or useful in helping convince people that: 1) Taking risks is something they can do 2) Taking risks with others is something worth doing 3) Inviting others to do the same is important action

the kind of knee-jerk cynicism we're seeing is just snarky idealism. it's nihilism dressed up as being smart. i want us to notice it in ourselves. and either fight against it, or sit out.
