provides an excellent rundown on the very grim constraints of the municipal bond market that Mamdani will face. Running a state under capitalism and trying to do anything besides serving capital is very, very hard. We have to get out altogether

My father was mostly raised by two women whom he called "auntie." My siblings and I called them that too. One was his aunt by relation, the other aunt was that aunt's companion, partner, possibly lover. What ppl call the members of their own family is nobody else's fucking business.

Ireland just chose compassion over cruelty by electing Catherine Connolly, an independent socialist who fights for women, LGBTQ+ people, carers and people with disabilities. In a world sliding into far right hate this landslide gives me hope.

If you don’t know what Femi (or Mayor Johnson) is referencing here, check out Black Reconstruction in America by W.E.B. DuBois. It’ll change how you see the Civil War, and particularly the role of enslaved Black people.

I think a lot about ACT UP. The brilliance of that organization was that anyone could work on any action they wanted. If you didn't agree with that action or didn't want to be part of it, you didn't work on it. You put your energy where you thought it was useful. Everyone just trying shit.
