Reading the pre 00s spidey comics first hand really shows how the perception of the two characters is almost entirely reversed. I also think MJ having, for the time, free sexuality without being "crazy" or "bad" was really cool

But before that? That was not Felicia at all. Again, she didn't debut till the 70's were bowing out and most of her stories were in the 80's, and even then it wasn't about Peter and Felicia screwing like rabbits and more how they just should not be dating in any way. 13/13

Seriously, check out "The Daydreamers" from ASM #246. Felicia's fantasy is all about this big romance with a fictionalized version of Spider-Man. MJ's is about guilt over her success and ignoring her family. This is who the characters were. 9/

Seriously, Felicia's "Daddy issues" was that she wanted her dad to die at home, which was resolved in the first storyline. The character with the *actual* daddy issues? MJ. Whose issues with her family was a long running subplot. 8/

I'm also not sure where this "Rolled a 12 in Daddy issues" thing came from because that was never a major aspect of Felicia's character. Also, Felicia only had two appearances in the 70's, in 1979. 7/ bsky.app/profile/bobc...

This trend even continued into the 90's into the period where Peter was married where she *threatened* MJ at various points, boasting how she was going to "win" Peter back. Until, eventually, her character was softened and she was phased out of the series. 6/

The bulk of Peter and Felicia's "relationship" wasn't "Two crazy kids who go at it like feral animals," but rather two people who just *should not be together in any way, shape or form.* It was just a *constant* series of misfires with Felicia barely hovering on the edge of sanity. 5/

As for her personality and romance with Peter- which, again, didn't happen till the 80's- it was less "Dirtier girlfriend who likes to f*ck" and more "Spider-Man shouldn't stick his d*ck in crazy." Granted this was later revealed as Felecia faking it, but her sanity was never all that sound. 4/

Felicia, on the other hand, did not make her debut until April of 1979. And in her first two appearances she was basically just the bad guy of the issue. In fact, she was *supposed* to debut as an enemy of Spider-Woman, but was ported over when that title was canceled. 3/
