It's a wrap for 2025, and here's my translation work that came out for the year (one image per series)! Sad to see the adorable glasses couple go, but also can't wait for some seriously cool projects coming out in 2026.

Here's all of the books I lettered in 2025. 83 in total (88 if you count omnibuses) & almost 200 simulpub chapters. It's been a busy year (20,000+ pages)—not much sleep, but thanks to everyone I work with, the localisation community and all the readers! Happy New Year! See you all in 2026!

Hi! Here's every manga I lettered in 2025. 40 volumes, maybe 43ish if you count omnibuses. This was a recovery year for me "technically" but I still ended up pretty overloaded. I have about the right workload, but time management is a tricky beast. Will try better next year!

Well... now that I've finished this year's work, I've done my annual review and... well... I think I've counted 62 volumes 🫠 which I think is my record, but I'm not going to repeat it... it's been so stressful! 😩 It will surely halve next year, I want to return to my regular life! ✨

A huge part of retouching manga is trying to understand how the image was drawn in the first place. On paper, this page would have pen, brush, whiteout, screen tones, etc., applied in different orders. Here is whiteout that cuts through the sound effect and foliage, with the screen tone over it.

A difficult retouch from Unholy Blood Vol. 4 that I was proud of! It didn't seem like a simple drop shadow shape in the Korean signage, so I was trying to extruded it via Illustrator with perspective... but that doesn't seem to really show in my version. 🙃

If you don't want gen AI in your manga, anime, game, and light novel translations, now is the time to make your voice heard. Write to your favorite publishers and developers and ask if they are incorporating LLMs into their process. And most importantly, tell them you will vote with your dollars.

Sometimes, letterering for manga means working in tandem with the Japanese SFX instead of rewriting them! In CLAMP Premium Collection Tokyo Babylon, Vol. 7, letterer @kernedout.bsky.social skillfully blends the English "ZWOOSH" text with it's Japanese counterpart for a seamless reading experience!

Nate does a great job here showing that kerning is positioning relative to the prior letter. These letters move closer together, but the cursor still appears at the right boundary of the left letter. If you make the bounding box too wide and rely only on kerning, your cursor gets inaccurate.
