Practicing alphabets with an Ames Guide and a variety of pens, mainly pigment liners of sizes 0.3, 0.5, and 0.7. Trying alternate letterforms, and seeing how pen sizes work at different scales. The 1.1 fountain pen I have is too big to use at these scales. Excited to try with smaller nibs soon.

Saw Bugonia tonight (loved it!) I love the typeface that is used in the title and credits. Coincidentally, I hacked together an alphabet last year for Tank Chair's Guicheng Academy signage/computers, w similar counters (letter holes), & it looks like a much tamer version of the Bugonia one. 😅

I like this kind of phonetic spelling of cut-off words in comics. "DEA" on its own can be read as "deh", "dee", or "dee-uh". Context would tell us it's "deh" once we get to the word "death", but I like how the phonetic spelling gets rid of any ambiguity right off the bat.

I knew that I had made it, for a very specific and personal definition of "made it," when I found two different manga titles I translate lined up right next to each other with the covers facing out in the "creepy/kooky/altogether ooky" section at Village Vanguard.

Kageki Shojo is probably my favorite project of all time! I'm so incredibly blessed to work on both the manga and the anime. It combines all my favorite passions (Japanese, theater, strong women) and is so well-written! SEASON TWO WHEN THOUGH 😭

I've been practicing lettering with pen and paper a lot recently. The letter S can be composed in so many different ways. Comic lettering is usually small-scale, and S can be a dense letter with tight curves. It's fascinating seeing how different fonts render the letter.

I got to work on Monster-Colored Island! Sankarea was the first romance manga that really stayed with me, and I've always thought there's something mysteriously beautiful in Hattori-sensei's works. It was nice to feel that again in this Girls' Love x supernatural story.
