In the 60s Floyd and some partners formed Vignette, their own company. They went down to the Watts riot and filmed it live. Their footage is the film you see because they were the only people who went down. Later Norman worked for Hanna-Barbera. “It was a great studio to work for.” #wondercon

Some of the great talents at Disney: Ruthie Thompson who was very young hanging out and eventually got to be in animation checking and lived to be 111. “I was one lucky kid who got one lucky break after another. The men and women who I worked with at Disney were the best of the best.” #wondercon

Being in the military was very interesting, says Floyd Norman who served in the Korean War. “You go off to a foreign country and people shoot at you.” On being a cartoonist: “That’s why I became a cartoonist because we’re all crazy.” #wondercon

Floyd talks about learning how to tell stories and and engage the audience from the classic Nine Old Men, but there was a new burst of excitement in the era of The Little Mermaid on to Lion King - huge run of success. It was very exciting. #wondercon

Floyd Norman appreciated that Walt was direct and stated his opinion. “He was a very easy guy to work for because he told you exactly what he wanted.” He got a master class with Walt and learned a lot about story. “We didn’t have shiny working for Walt.” #wondercon

Willie Ito interviewed at Disney and two weeks later was called In took a test and was assigned to the “Lady unit” - working in Lady and the Tramp. He worked under Iwao Takamoto, another great animator of Japanese heritage. Ito started working in the spaghetti scene immediately! #wondercon
