The only bad part of Mamdani winning is that Michaela Kennedy-Cuomo is almost certainly beginning her metamorphosis into the political dynasty nepobaby to end all nepobabies.

DA races are a test for "Does the rhetoric about a City / county match its lived reality?" Pprogressive DA's are winning carrying out the platform they ran on. There are frictions, but voters do want a new model of criminal justice. Boudin in SF was an outlier because of a shift in demography.

Between anti trans campaign ads failing last night spectacularly and rep Seth Moulton walking back his anti trans rhetoric, it seems like the slide on support for trans people has been stopped for now. It's still precarious but this was the best possible night we could have had.

WFP's rise is big ahead of 2026 midterms. First, Hochul really can't play games; she'll have to deliver progressive legislation in the session before reelect (not after). Second, DINOs in NYC won't just get Primaries but potentially a grinding General if WFP goes fission instead of fusion.

Zohran Mamdani has driven Working Families Party to its best Citywide election total for its Mayoral line at 157,095 votes (and rising). That is three times the previous high mark for WFP (de Blasio 2017). It is also about 1 in every 6 Mamdani voters, which includes Mamdani himself apparently.

Cuomo's campaign was a cesspool of racism and bigotry. Never, ever, ever forget that. Never let anyone who worked for him on this campaign worm themselves back into any kind of respectability.

Really striking: Andrew Cuomo lost his mayoral campaign using the same dirty tactics he employed as manager of the 1977 Mario Cuomo campaign. Almost half a century apart, two Cuomos got the same proportion of the vote (~40%). And Mamdani may have destroyed Andy *worse* than Koch destroyed Mario.

Something overlooked from the last dump of polls (which showed the race tightening) is that Cuomo gained voting intent while opinion about him became less favorable. Mamdani had the opposite issue: as voting intent waned, his favorability went up. That's really NYC politics for you.
