A good friend of mine died before age 50 in the pre-ACA world. He was a full-time freelancer and never had health insurance. If he'd had coverage like I do, he could have been treated *before* he developed heart failure. Steve didn't have to die young. That was a choice of our country.

I know nothing is official yet, but I feel like I could throw up. Hi, this is me. 70% of my reliable teaching income next year will be eaten up by my health insurance, which I need because I'm chronically ill. I hope those 8 dems who voted yes never have a moment's peace.

Before the ACA, I couldn't get insurance as a freelancer at all, bc I'm a type 1 diabetic, so "pre-existing conditions." It was absolute shit on my health, scavenging for insulin & test strips, constantly in life or death debates about being able to go to the doctor. I had no primary care.

I can't stress this enough as a super volunteer for the Democratic Party and Democratic candidates. This should prompt you to get MORE involved, not less. Show up and use the existing infrastructure to make it work for all of us. In my neck of the woods, we've seen a ton of local victories this way.
