Game workers do not receive any residuals/royalties on shipped titles and shipping bonuses are increasingly rare. There's also no guarantee that your name will even be in the credits if you leave before ship, and studios will use this to keep you compliant. All of this can and should change.

There’s going to come a day in the next decade or so where there’s a shortage of talent in games, and yacht hoarding mega-millionaire studio heads will find a way to blame their workers for that too.

Small note. Mass layoffs like these are also a tactic to devalue the work because workers become more desperate while companies create false scarcity. Do not, ever, forget your worth. Don’t let them win. You make this industry exist. They don’t.

I’m not a business genius or anything but if you shed 1800 jobs in three years, while owning one of the most popular entertainment products in history and the tool used to make it, maybe there are other questions to be asked somewhere.
