i built a little empire out of some crazy garbage
pinned post!
i would respect the democratic congressional leaders more if they straight up absconded to the french riviera and said "well, we tried. good luck out there americans. we believe in you 😉" as a farewell because that, at least, would constitute a decision

The democrats had a combined 12 years (8 Obama and 4 Biden) to break up Sinclair. People were hip to this stuff in the 2004 election.

Trump regime trying out taking away the circuses and raising the price of bread, while removing the incentives to respect due process. You can probably count the number of administration officials and Republican politicians who understand the implications of all this with your fingers.

do regular liberals who invoke the french revolution as a "bad because violent" revolution understand that it wasn't a self-contained conflict? i feel like the popular understanding goes "king gets deposed" "things get crazy in there" "the Terror" "Napoleon"

Fly larva with a fake termite face can infiltrate termite mounds and socialize
Nature is full of impostors, and many of them are found in the insect world. Certain species, such as the bee fly or the ant spider, are experts at misdirection and their ability to confuse predators ...

"i of course condemn political violence" yes because they weren't good enough at it. if they were better at it you'd make your peace. that is 99% of the discourse. if justice were generally available, it would be a different issue, but it's not and pretending it is won't make it so

This isn’t remotely a dig at OP but people forget how unbelievably politically violent the 60s through 80s were. What *might* turn out to have been the exception were the heights of the aughts and 2010s. Turns out the correlation might have been the peak of US economic and political hegemony.

Radical-right parties are often linked to the “left-behind”. But supporting them when stigma is strong is costly. So who is willing to pay that cost early on, before it’s normalized? In my new WP, I argue that breaking political norms is socially stratified. 🧵👇
