Chronicling America was the cornerstone of my ambitious ( and rather unfulfilled) capstone project and I had hoped that future undergrads would also experience the sheer joy of finding a fugitive text and running it through the archives to trace its evolution through reprinting across time periods .

If students learn nothing else from me, I want them to know that writing and thinking are iterative processes. You can use an LLM to augment your intellect (to paraphrase Douglas Engelbart), but if you want to be a functional adult, you need to read, write, and think like one.

Pulled an all-nighter to build 7 classifiers which identify which book your harry potter fanfiction aligns with the most . Truly this might be the most satisfying project I have undertaken 🤓

A total side note, but this German animation of how a Linotype machine works helped me understand it *so much* better—& honestly I kind of thought I did understand it I always tell students that the Linotype "is the most steampunk machine to have ever really existed" & I stand by that description
