FYI for adult creators/businesses: today's decision blocking parts of Florida's HB3 ONLY applies to the provisions restricting minors' use of social media. It does not apply to the part of the law that mandates age verification on adult sites (despite the fact that it is just as unconstitutional).

“Age verification” laws require people to upload sensitive info to access “materials harmful to minors” and “obscene material”. They’re starting with porn…but guess what else they consider to be harmful and obscene? These laws open the door to sweeping censorship.

Laws that require people to sacrifice their anonymity to view or post content online are dangerous, whether it's in the context of porn, social media, or whatever else lawmakers decide is harmful to children at a given time.

We must recognize the danger that age verification laws have beyond pornography. They could clear the way for politicians to deem harmful any content they disagree with, such as LGBTQ+ content or content about abortion.
