I can point to the exact moment when my faith in academia died, and it was when my MS advisor had a friend/collaborator get busted for sexually harassing women during Antarctic fieldwork. He defended it to us (his students, majority-women) by saying that in Antarctica, "men turn into animals."

A grad student I know recently had his work covered in a high profile outlet...but his name wasn't mentioned at all despite his advisor explicitly saying he did all of the work. Since I've straddled the line between academic and journalist, I see both sides. Here are a couple ways to avoid this:

my only advice is not to fall off the faculty track and get stuck simply "doing science" - i'm now getting paid less than new postdocs *in my lab* ("the lab i am in") 🤦‍♂️ either become a professor or get a real job, don't take the in-between if you want $$$, that's my ted talk

I got my ADHD medication in Austria the moment the psychiatrist verified my diagnosis. In the UK, I am on a one-year waiting list to receive medication starting from the assessment date (which they had to redo), even though I am already on medication from another psychiatrist.
