A quick visit between the rain to Battery Point in Portishead this morning managed to see 5 Purple Sandpipers, 2 curlews, an Oyster Catcher and a Rock Pipit.

Dunlin have only been present here on the Severnside patch in low numbers this winter. Some days I haven't seen any so it was a nice surprise to see thousands murmurating off Severn Beach/Chittening Warth on the Spring tide. The video shows part of the flock.

Caspian Gull yesterday and today in Brixham Harbour. Shot 3 shows Casp standing tall amongst a throng of other gulls, picked out by Mike Langman as it was getting dark. Great Northern Diver stretching its wings this morning.

It was worth going out again as saw a stunning Brambling NFY on the canal. There is a flock of 400+ mainly Chaffinches and Linnets with some Greenfinches on the canal which I have been searching for ages thinking there must be a Brambling in there somewhere 😀 #ukbirding

A Dunnock tucked amongst brambles at Lamplighters Marsh (Bristol). Sometimes nicknamed "Hedge Sparrows" but they're not true sparrows and of a differnet family. Their thin pointed bill is a helpful quick way of distinguishing them from a sparrow with its chunky finch like bill. (04.02.26) #avonbirds

Battery Point is not easy to get to when you‘re disabled but I am glad I made the effort. We went to see purple sandpipers, which are usually on the rocks, but they were on the buoy far out to sea, with some turnstone. We waited an hour, just as we were leaving two flew in onto the rocks. #AvonBirds

Enjoyed watching a flock of around 20 Linnet flitting in search of seeds from trees and shrubs and down to ground level a few days ago. Whilst working on a house in Paignton town centre, I picked up on a Yellow- browed Warbler call at the rear of the property. Thankfully I managed to capture a few seconds of video. #UKBirding

Washing a few dishes.. watching out the kitchen window. The usual charm of Goldfinch about... a Robin perched in the fuchsia. Male Blackcap flits in then off next door. A Chiffchaff hops about plant to plant. A Wren disturbs the Robin, then a second Wren emerges - a pair, lovely! #bristolbirding

A bitter easterly rather spoilt this morning's walk to Cardiff Bay wetlands & back but it was nice to watch this Med gull bathing &, best, I inadvertently flushed a Jack snipe, which did the usual short flight before dropping back into the reeds but it was calling, which was new to me. #birdingWales

Little Gulls, first winter ones, finding food from the rough sea just north of the pier at Teignmouth this morning. Difficult to count as they were flying up and down from the pier but at least three birds. Underside of Little Gull in pic 3 has a pinkish hue?

During a late afternoon/evening walk around Nailsea Moor, I found 2 Little Owls, 2 Kestrels, a Peregrine and a Chiffchaff. I also heard a few Teal calling in the dark. No sign of Barn Owls today though! #avonbirds
