An initially confusing Helophilus pendulus in the garden this afternoon showing 2/3 black on the hind tibia. Almost had me convinced as H.hybridus until I noticed it's a male! The fore and mid femora are noticeably darker than usual too.

Recent weather: fog to start, but brightened up to sunny and Green! A Green Warbler was trapped and ringed at the Observatory yesterday morning - if accepted by BBRC this will constitute the first record for the Isle of Man!

A frustrating one from the garden 26th March last year. Maybe a Platycheirus sticticus but maybe the L-shaped hairs on the first leg in pic one are problematic. Maybe I need to invest in a proper camera to continue down the hoverfly wormhole...

Interesting acro trapped in the Crown Estate Field this mrng - suspect it's going to turn out to be a Blyth's Reed but certainly a pretty subtle one - plumage not too bad, decent biometrics, poor p4 emargination etc. No field views & no calls.

Migrant Aphideater (Eupeodes corollae) are very numerous in the garden this year. The males have been very varied in colour, the females varied in size - the effect of the recent temperatures on the pupa or perhaps even immigrants from the continent? I've only seen the very small females ovipositing

A Fea's type Petrel east off the Bill at c09:00 - seen briefly but well going past mid-distance with a Manx but lost while then trying to photograph it. Being looked for constantly from the Bill and the Obs since then but still no further sign so presumed to have moved through rather than lingered.

Yeovil Peregrine Update! This week the three chicks were ringed by one of the Hawk and Owl Trust team. Due to the size of the chicks we suspect they are all male also known as tiercels. Ringing is carried out to monitor survival, population and dispersal of Peregrine Falcons.
