Yeovil Peregrine Update! This week the three chicks were ringed by one of the Hawk and Owl Trust team. Due to the size of the chicks we suspect they are all male also known as tiercels. Ringing is carried out to monitor survival, population and dispersal of Peregrine Falcons.

The Great Glen skua portal opened up today, amazing to see Long-tailed Skuas thermalling over Loch Linnhe like giant Bee-eaters up to 1000m before whizzing northeast towards Inverness! 🪶

Heard a weird sound in the Avalon hide this evening, turned around to see a wood mouse eating a crisp! They seemed to be scavenging whatever crumbs birders leave behind

Really didn't anticipate a Ross's Gull on a lake today, 30 minutes from home on a warm and sunny day in Essex! Great to see all the Essex birders turning out for this county first and thanks to @ETilburyBirder for the excellent find.

What a stunning find by John Foster. Cornwall’s 2nd Lesser Kestrel found at Croft Pascoe Downs, Lizard (1st May 2026). The first was in May 1968 so this male has been long overdue.

Sensational news broke on the 27th Apr (13:22pm) of a dark ph Booted Eagle at Porthgwarra. Perry Smale was in the right place when this gorgeous raptor drifted past him at Roskestal Farm. He observed it for three minutes as it headed for St. Levan church. Pics courtesy of P.Smale.

My 2nd lifer of the day with this brilliant Black-throated Thrush in Mayshiel, Lothian. Just managed to catch it before rain (and a lorry) spooked it and flew into trees for cover. What a great bird! 97 accepted UK records to 2022. Thrush #7. UK #317.

Five drake American wigeon were on the Ogmore Estuary for their second day and showing much better at Portobello Island. A little ringed plover was on the island too. In the flight shot there were only four which were accompanied by a pair of Eurasian wigeon.
